GSBA Director - Scott Pennington, Esq
LAW
Scott maintains a solo practice in Newark, NJ. His areas of specialty
are: municipal matters, such as disorderly persons and traffic offenses.
He also handles small business formation, divorce, contract reviews,
and contract disputes. While completing a judicial internship (with
the Hon. Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr., Judge, Federal District Court for
the District of New Jersey), Scott drafted an opinion that had a major
impact on the status of Megan's Law offenders.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
In addition to his career in law, Scott has spent eighteen years in
the telecommunications industry, both in the public and private sectors.
His extensive career includes: eight years as a Teacher of Telecommunications
in the Newark Public Schools (where he currently teaches courses in
basic telecommunications, computer networking, and fiber optics);
two years with Bell Atlantic (Verizon) as an instructor and eight
years as a technician
EDUCATION
Scott holds a Juris Doctorate from Rutgers School of Law, Newark;
a Master of Arts from Rutgers Graduate School, Newark; as well as
degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Thomas
Edison State College, New Jersey.
MEDIA
Scott has appeared many times on television, the radio and in print
discussing various topics ranging from politics and volunteerism to
education and technology. Scott's TV appearances include: Caucus:NJ,
with Steve Adubato; UPN9 News, News 12 NJ, NJN News, and WABC Eyewitness
News Scott's radio appearances include: WBGO, discussing Kids Voting-NJ,
and WSOU, analyzing Essex county Politics.
Scott has been featured in several newspaper
article; some of which include: The Star-Ledger, in which Scott's
telecommunications lab was discussed; The Bergen Record, which covered
Scott's participation on a televised panel that interviewed former
Congressman Bob Franks and Senator Jon Corzine; The Irvington Chronicle
and Twin Visions newspaper discussing Scott's transition from Bell
Atlantic instructor to high-school teacher.
Ms. Tarver's biography appears in Who's Who
of American Women, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in American Law
and Who's Who in America.
MILITARY
Scott is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. After serving
two terms and rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant at the age of twenty-three,
Scott made the difficult decision to leave the military in order to
raise his family in a more stable environment.
PERSONAL
Scott's proudest accomplishment is the raising of his children as
a single parent for five years until he remarried. He sought and was
awarded custody of six year-old son and one year-old daughter. Scott
and his wife, Jacqueline, reside in South Orange, NJ.
AFFILIATIONS
Scott is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; the Garden
State Bar, Essex County Bar, American Bar, National Bar, and New Jersey
State Bar Associations; has served on the Board of Directors of the
Tri-City Peoples Corporation, the Board of Trustees of the First Unitarian
Universalist Church of Essex County (where he is a life-long member),
the Board of Directors of Jersey Cares, Inc., was the founding Director
of the Newark Affiliate of Kids Voting New Jersey and serves on the
Board of The United Academy in Newark.
