President's Message

GSBA's Revival

Welcome to the 2011-2012 Garden State Bar Association Year.  This year our theme is “Revival.”  Many of you will recognize the word as a religious concept but our focus is one of rededication and rebirth of our organization. We will actively work on winning new converts (new attorneys) and inspire a rebirth in our seasoned members.  Our founders created this organization to foster relationships among practitioners and to advocate for the Black community and Black Attorneys in the profession.  As a result, although we are still underrepresented in the legal profession, our numbers have grown exponentially.

For our new attorneys and law students, our programming will provide networking opportunities and exposure to different areas of the law. We will also continue our tradition of helping law students by using the money raised by our annual Gala to fund scholarships.  For our more seasoned members, the Association is addressing the new CLE requirement by sponsoring or co-sponsoring many opportunities for affordable CLE credit.  As a service to the greater community, we will continue to advocate in the civil rights arena.  This year our focus will include re-districting.

Finally, we are looking to revamp and re-introduce our newsletter.  We will also increase our foot print in social media.  We are a twenty-first century organization that respects and honors our ancestors’ values.
