FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TRENTON, NJ  May 2, 2011 – The Garden State Bar Association congratulates the winner of its 1L internship with Prudential: Nadia Sheikh-Bandukda.

altNadia is a rising second-year law student at Rutgers School of Law-Newark. At Rutgers, she is a Kinoy-Stavis Public Interest fellow and part of the Minority Students Program. In 2008, Nadia traveled to Europe with the U.S. State Department to introduce initiatives to policymakers and non-governmental organizations on projects surrounding integration and workforce development for minority populations. She came back to New Jersey and worked as assistant director in policy and communications for an immigration policy organization. She completed her BA in Political Science at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, a Public Policy Fellowship at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs, and attended Columbia Business School as a Rothschild Fellow for Social Entrepreneurship. After Columbia, Nadia began her plans to launch self-sustainable social enterprises aimed at assisting minority populations in urban areas.

She now hopes to pursue her professional interests in business, real-estate, and the labor & employment field, after her exposure to corporate life as a child. Nadia was born and raised in New Jersey, by a Kenyan-born businessman of Indo-Pak descent and her strong-willed Pakistani mother. Nadia currently lives in Central Jersey with her husband whom she met in Newark working on initiatives to counter homelessness, and continues to work on supporting domestic and international relief projects.

The Garden State Bar Association and Prudential congratulates Nadia and wishes her well in what appears to be a very promising future. Thom Jackson, the GSBA President remarked " I want to thank Prudential for its continued support of the Garden State Bar Association and for its commitment to building diversity in the legal profession."
