GSBA President Elect - Greta Gooden Brown
Ms. Brown is a 24 year veteran prosecutor, having served in the Criminal Division of the New Jersey Attorney General's Office in a variety of positions. She joined the Division in 1983 as a Deputy Attorney General in the Appellate Bureau. From 1985 to 1994, she served in various supervisory capacities in the Appellate Bureau, the Institutional Abuse Unit and the Medicaid Fraud Section. From 1994 to 2001, Ms. Brown headed the Prosecutors and Police Bureau where, on behalf of the Attorney General, the chief law enforcement officer in the State, she was responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of all twenty-one County Prosecutors, their respective municipal prosecutors and local police departments. In 1999, she was promoted to an Assistant Attorney General, the first African American Assistant Attorney General in the history of the Division of Criminal Justice. A 1977 honors graduate of Essex County College, Ms. Brown earned a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University's Douglass College in 1979 and a law degree from Rutgers Law School in 1982. From 1982 to 1983, she served as a law clerk to Judge Stephen Skillman, now of the Appellate Division, and Judge Judson Hamlin, formerly of the Superior Court, Law Division. In 1999, Ms. Brown was inducted into the prestigious Douglass Society. In 2005, she was selected as a "High Achieving Woman and Minority Lawyer" by the New Jersey Law Journal. In 2007, she was the recipient of the renowned Thurgood Marshall Award for Excellence in the Profession. Ms. Brown was also awarded the 2007 Corporate and Government Leadership Award by the Caribbean Bar Association of New Jersey. In addition, Ms. Brown was a recipient of the 2007 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award presented by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. In 2007, Ms. Brown was elected to a three year term as a Trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Criminal Law Section. She was also elected to the office of President Elect of the Garden State Bar Association for the 2007 to 2008 term.

Ms.
Brown was nominated on February 26, 2001 by the Governor of New
Jersey to be the second New Jersey Insurance Fraud Prosecutor. Her
nomination was confirmed by the Senate on March 29, 2001. As the
New Jersey Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, she heads one of the largest
law enforcement agencies in the State, the Office of the Insurance
Fraud Prosecutor, administering a budget of approximately $30 million
and overseeing a staff of approximately 300.
